Problem
Both Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle UVLs currently look dated and don’t use the new style guide or VW Design System so are not consistent with the new cars sites.
Goals & Objectives
-
To create responsive concepts for both the VWCV and VWPC UVLs that will follow the VWG in house design system but will be styled using the VW style guide and use the external VW Design System. Concepts must include emails and literature (back end and front end leaflets)
-
Continual communication must be provided throughout to internal and external stakeholders.
-
To analyse the external VW design system and style guides ensuring that concepts follow this and are kept inline.
-
To deliver the project in timely phases so that new functionality will be injected as the project progressed inline with the agile ways of working i.e. finance and budget search

Process
-
To use the our VWG design system and create a VW UVL style guide and re-brand components based on the VW design system and guidelines
-
Provide regular feedback daily to the team via stand ups and ad-hoc meetings and also have fortnightly (after each sprint) client feedback sessions on the progress.
-
Produce concepts while having regular discussions with the developers to ensure that all designs are kept within the guidelines of the SOLR VWG template and are achievable
-
Ensure that accessibility tests were carried out via the Stark plugin
-
Discuss concepts with UX team and conduct user feedback
-
Present concepts to the team for internal review, then align and adjust concepts based on feedback received
-
Once internal stakeholders are happy with concepts they were then presented to external stakeholders. Following this final feedback was given and concepts amended accordingly.
-
Once final concepts were signed off then assets were exported and regular conversations were had with the development team to ensure that the solution matched the concepts created.

Conclusion
The fact that the two UVLs both followed the same styling meant that the concepts could be created more efficiently and the UVLs be delivered quickly. The client was very happy with the UVLs and the work the team put in to get the projects over the line.
