Bentley new model strategy

Created in Q3 2021 while working as the primary UI Designer for the VWG Team at Cox Automotive

Problem

Bentley have a new model naming strategy that will be pushed live on all platforms for March 2022. As part of this new naming strategy Modix platforms will need to be updated.

Most current models will need updating and moving into new categories and more models need to be added. This means the user will incur much more scrolling on the landing page to find the model the require. Also as part of this project there will be more of a push on the model information page including the addition of engine types.

Goals & Objectives

  • To create a model information page to showcase the model, include gallery, tech spec and to promote the various engine options.

  • Add additional models to the landing page within the search area

  • Create a solution to the long scrolling homepage that’s been brought about by the addition of extra models.

Process

Model information page

  • Research options to display the engine specs while bearing in mind the length of the page.

  • Created wireframes and sketches for a number of options and built prototypes that could be tested with different audiences.

  • The findings were analysed, presented and discussed with internal and external stakeholders

  • From wireframe refinement concepts were created and presented to the team the discussed with the client for sign off

Model additions

  • Research potential functionality and layout options for the long model heavy homepage including discussions with the UX team to gather data for optional layouts

  • Create wireframes for an accordion option that would house each model and their derivatives

  • Produce a prototype to demonstrate the functionality

  • Discuss the accordion with the internal and external stakeholders

  • Once the feedback has been actioned then provide the final concept for sign off

Conclusion

The model information page was updated by the development team based on the concepts provided. There was more much focus on the engine specification options for the user to select by adding the tabbed layout. The client was happy that the information was more prominent to the user but didn't incur a more lengthy page.

The model work was achieved in the Modix system and the models were added to the homepage to populate the accordion. The result was a much shorter homepage which was user friendly and could be navigated more easily to the desired Bentley model.
